How surreal! This little old tour keeps throwing up some Gems! We found ourselves staying in a gorgeous sleepy university town called Leuven which is approx half hour from Brussels and 20 minutes or so from Werchter. After hopping on a bus to the unknown we stumbled upon an even smaller and sleepier village and then it all went a bit mad!
We were greeted by a huge festival with some 30000 plus people of all ages having a great time. We had the experience of seeing a band called Tokio hotel (?) hard rock and apparently an EMO band? Never heard of them but they have apparently sold over 5 million albums in Germany, the crowd were going mental and the sound system was pretty impressive. As I stood on the fringes with obligatory Stella in hand I was contemplating how Mick and the boys would be received and how the intimate venues so far would be replaced by a huge outdoor setting.
I needn't have worried!! The boys came on in particular ebullient style, and basically educated and taught a few people a few things about being consummate professionals at the top of their game! The crowd were obliging in their interest and cooperation many of whom of course would have had no idea as to what they were going to see. Mick was doing his stuff, Kenji was manic and Kevin and Ian shared many a joke between themselves.
It was a great trip and a great / bizarre setting to see the guys after Bristol / Oxford etc but it simply proves that quality and experience are so often taken for granted.
This is a fabulous band who appear to gel so incredibly well and more importantly are enjoying what they are doing. I have always said that for me, the measure of a great band is to be able to busk on the streets and still sound amazing. Goes without saying that these guys could busk in front of 3 or 30000 people and still be amazing.
Tell you something guys, we are seeing something pretty special at the moment, only hindsight and retrospect will really tell us, but for now as it happens……I'm ready!!!

My English is not so good, but I'll still try some words to write.
The concert at Werchter was very good ! Mick's new album is very beautiful to listen off. Persons like Bobby mustn't be forgotten. It's beautiful music en Mick is the right person to sing and bring that forgotten music back. He's got a wonderful and strong voice. I went to Werchter especially for this tribute and I'll enjoyed every second of it. I have seen Mick (with his band Simply Red) four times before here in Belgium and that is still my number one-band (for life I think). I 'm sorry to hear that the band Simply Red cease to exist but I wish Mick a great new solo-career. His album Tribute to Bobby is already one of my favorites !! I hope he will be back soon for giving his own concert (without any other bands like last sunday).
Also my congratulations to the people of the band ! They always give the best of themselves !
I hope that I wrote this without many mistakes, I'm 42 years old, it's been quiet a while that I went to school.
