I was last night at the Montreux Jazz Festival to see and mostly hear Mick's new material. I was as usual glued with Mick incredible voice. I think it never was as powerful as that before. Singing in a local jazz band myself, it's always an inspiration to see Mick perform. The band was great and the all show was very professional.
I think Mick shows great courage to decide to give SR a break to be able to perform songs, which are not so well known, and from a different repertoire. And it's always a pleasure to discover some oldies yet so goodies. I love it.
There was only one sad thing for that concert: where were the people? The concert hall must have been just half full. Wasn't the audience ready for Mick Hucknall? Or, is Mick's name not known enough in Switzerland? Maybe the MJF should have mentioned Simply Red somewhere in their communication so people would realise who is actually performing?
Nevertheless, we were quickly allowed to use the empty sits in the front rows, and we had practically a private concert for us, and that was so cool!
I just hope the band wasn’t too disappointed that the full audience didn’t turn up. At least, the people who were there really enjoyed the show. I did! So… I'm bringing my mum at the concert in Zurich next Friday (the 18th) for her birthday (which is on the 24th). She’s also a big fan of Mick. Her name's Sylvia if Mick wants to wish her happy birthday ;-) I'm looking forward to seeing the show again. It's going to be just great!
Thanks again Mick and the band for the great music and the pleasure you give us!
Take care

Thank you for two sensational shows in Montreux, the Bobby Blue tribute will remain a highlight of this year's Montreux Jazz Festival alongside the Quincy Jones 75th birthday, and the Stanley Clarke/Chick Corea/ Al Di Meola/ Lenny White concert. Thank you for bringing so much talent and your amazing voice which gets more heavenly every year! What a musical and commercial challenge! You deserve respect and tons of success for building bridges over several music generations and bringing your love and passion for Bobby to a broad audience. Bobby's lyrics and melodies are born again! I immediately bought your album and it's been playing on my stereo ever since. I encourage everybody to do the same! I thought it was a very good idea to play the doc before the gig, so people got the message before you walked on stage.
