"Live at Sunset" was held for the first time at the "Dolder" and not as usual in the "Landesmuseum". What means not in the middle of the town but a little bit outside on the hill. But the atmosphere was the same magic as always: special concerts in front of not too many people, under the sky at sunset. After a drink at the bar all people looked for their chairs. So my wife and I did. The intro-movie began. A little bit too long but very informative for those who didn't know who Bobby was. Then the concert started and it was fantastic!
Perfect voice, professional musicians, decent light-show. After 2-3 songs everybody was "in the groove". There were some technical problems with the guitar amp but not for too long. The 2 Simply Red song in the middle of the song list were chosen very good. A beautiful evening with a superb interpretation.
Thank you!
And I loved Mick's words at the end: we'll see you next year with more known songs!

After Montreux, I went to Zurich at the Live at Sunset Festival on the 18th of July. Well, the audience was crazy as the show was so good. Once again, it was a real pleasure to hear the songs. And I can't believe how powerful Mick voice is. I can't imagine the numbers of hours he must have spent and must be spending training it to be so accurate and powerful. I'm totally in admiration.
Back to the show! We (me and my mum) were in the front row and it was just great to see the whole band so close. It was impressive to see the expression on their face of giving everything when they play. Kenji had a bit of a hard time with his guitar material. Technicians were doing their best to solve the problem as discretely as possible. But happy end: Kenji was finally able to play his best solos as a solution was found in the meantime. Just perfect!
The people in Zurich were certainly livelier than in Montreux, which makes so much difference. Mick was also enthusiastic and very communicative. My mum had a very good time and a great show as a birthday present.
Thanks Mick and the band for giving us so much pleasure, and the perfect birthday gift to my mum.
Take care

wonderful concert as usual ...:-))... but also a little technical obstacle course, that you and and your perfect band ( especially kenji !! ) handled very souverain and funny. i am looking forward to the simpy red shows next year..... but i am also looking forward to the next mick hucknall project.

thank you very much for this extraterrestrial bluesy, funky, soulful show! thank you, Mick, for sharing your love, heart, passion and your unique voice with us that beautiful evening that, I’m sure, no one who’s been there will ever forget! no overstatement here.
the film about Bobby “Blue” Bland was nice, never heard of him before although I’m very into blues, soul and funk. a really great idea to make such a project as a tribute to this great singer. you’ve also picked very beautiful songs, the ballads were just breathtaking! the film is maybe just a couple of minutes too long even if it’s been quite interesting. the setlist has been compiled pretty nicely with the slower songs at the beginning and the faster and funkier ones in the second half of the concert bringing the cautious Swiss crowd more and more from their seats :). a million thanks, guys, for the nostalgic smasher “money’s too tight to mention” “especially for us”!!! :) the crowd appreciated that very much! and what a beautiful conclusion of that magnificent evening with that sad romantic dreamy ballad (“lead me on”)… that was perfect even if you found it a bit cold, come on :). you played and sang as precisely and clean as on the studio album, without needless “jazzy” variations and freestyles. that’s the real mastery and art! a lot of people can play and sing chaotically but just a few like they really should! Mick and his band are among those few ones! by the way, Mick’s voice has been ten times stronger and even clearer than on the studio album! what a tremendous talent!
I tried to pursuade my colleagues and friends to come with me to this concert, but unfortunately, they all had planned something else for that friday evening. they just didn’t know what they were missing. I pity these fools :). you have to come back next year, Mick, please! either with the same beautiful programme or with the brilliant Simply Red stuff or with a mix of the both.
by the way, I was the tall red-haired guy in the grey suit on the right side from you in the standing zone pushing his thumbs up and trying to reach your hand, Mick, while you were singing „here’s my haaand...“ ;)
hope to see you soon again, guys!
cheers,
